Tomodachi, a student-run organization at Fordham University, actively champions Japanese heritage and builds relationships within the students and NYC. This is done by endorsing local Japanese and AAPI-owned enterprises and executing heritage-based events.

My Role
My Role
As an immigrant of AAPI heritage, I value diversity, equity, and inclusion to establish a sense of belonging inside and outside campus. My co-founders and I discovered a lack of representation for Japanese and Japanese-American students during our time at Fordham. This prompted us to jointly establish Tomodachi in 2022 to moderate cultural misconceptions ingrained in society and offer the student body insight into various aspects of Japanese tradition.

In the role of Social Media and Community Manager for Tomodachi, I led in forging our brand personality, from creating our logo and social media graphics to the distribution of messages within our community chat and facilitating interactions between NYC's non-profits and small businesses.
As a collective, we arranged weekly events, meetings, and outings for our members, from museum visits at Noguchi Museum, buying vinyls at Face Records NYC, all the way to attending performances at Japan Society. At our core, we aimed to be actively invested in societal issues, often hosting joint fundraisers with fellow student-run organizations.
